Reports of US service members injured in Kabul explosions, S&P 500 extends falls

An explosion at an entry gate to the Kabul Airport has injured two or three US Marines, according to Reuters. Aljazeera has cited a Taliban security source who said that 13 were killed and scores were wounded.

News of injuries to Americans in the large evacuation of Afghanistan has dampened the market mood, sending the S&P 500 Index down to 4,481 points at the time of writing. The safe-haven dollar is receiving limited support in the immediate aftermath.

Markets had mostly shrugged off the fall of the Asian country to the hands of the Taliban on August 15 and the turmoil since then. There are some 5,000 US troops and others from additional nations centered on repatriating citizens and also Afghans.
