Small changes in net USD positions by specs - HSBC

FXStreet (Bali) - According to the latest IMM FX futures positions, small changes in net USD positions were reported on the week, notes the FX Strategy Team at HSBC.

"Total short USD positions rose slightly to USD5.3bn in the week ended April 22 from USD4.9bn the previous week, using the cumulative notional USD total of the currency futures contracts that trade on the IMM."

"Speculators have been running a relatively small, aggregate, net short USD position for three consecutive weeks, contrary to the general trend of long USD positions that has prevailed for the past year-plus."

"Long EUR positions fell slightly to USD4.4bn from USD4.7bn previously. That is roughly half of the recent peak long EUR position from a month ago."

"Short JPY positions fell slightly to USD8.1bn from USD8.4bn. Long GBP positions fell to USD5.0bn from USD5.3bn. Short CAD positions were little changed at USD3.2bn. Long AUD positions rose to USD1.5bn from USD758m. Long NZD positions were little changed at USD1.7bn. Long CHF positions were little changed at USD2.0bn. Long MXN positions were little changed at 2.0bn."

Japan's FinMin: BoJ should stick to easing policy

According to Reuters, citing sources from Jiji news agency, Japan's Finance Minister Aso, speaking to lawmakers in parliament, said he would stick to stimulus policy for the time being.
