Central Bank watch - UOB

Analysts at UOB Group highlighted key events surrounding the Central Banks.

Key Quotes:

"San Francisco Fed President Williams (voter) said the US economy is performing as expected and has not shifted gears. Overall, he thinks three or four rate hikes for 2018 would be reasonable and would be data dependent. Dallas Fed President Kaplan (non-voter) said the US economy will see inflation pressure this year. He also increased his conviction that three rate hikes are likely appropriate this year.

There is also a substantial monetary policy decision calendar from regional central banks this week starting with Australia (RBA, 6 Feb), India (RBI, 7 Feb), New Zealand (RBNZ, 8 Feb) and Philippines (BSP, 8 Feb). All these central banks are expected to keep policy unchanged in February. In addition, RBA Governor Lowe will give a speech in Sydney on 8 Feb while the RBA will release its quarterly statement on monetary policy on 9 Feb."
