Crypto Today: Bitcoin treads water above $8000
Digital currencies, except citcoin cash, are having a relatively quiet day on Wednesday amid a lack of fresh catalysts that could impact the price action. The BTC/USD pair is moving in a tight $200 range on the day and was last seen trading at $8230, up $150 on the day. In the meantime, the ETH/USD pair is up $5 at $364.50. In the meantime, after Bitstamp, one of the major cryptocurrency exchange platforms, announced that it would include bitcoin cash trading, the BCH/USD jumped to a fresh daily high at $1350. As of writing, the pair was trading at $1280, up 9.4% on the day.
The total market capitalization of all digital currencies inched higher to $245.6 billion on Wednesday. Bitcoin's dominance edged lower to 55% while the bitcoin cash volume increased to 9% from 8%. Eherum's volume remains steady near 14%.
Earlier in the day, a Wall Street Journal report claimed that despite its CEO's outspoken criticism, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is looking at business opportunities in the planned bitcoin-futures market, which will be launched by the Chicago-based exchange operator, CME Group Inc.
