US preparing to review China’s market economy status - WSJ
According to official documents on the Commerce Department website, the US officials are preparing a review of China’s “market-economy status” under the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported earlier on the day.
The review will be conducted to preserve China’s unfavorable status in American trade cases, a step that will make it easier to impose higher tariffs on the Chinese goods in the future.
The review is expected to be announced as early as this week, just days before a crucial meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump.
