Benefits of negative rates outweigh costs – SNB’s Maechler

Andrea Maechler, member of the governing board of the SNB, stressed that the benefits of implementing negative rates far outweigh their costs.

Maechler added that the effectiveness of looser monetary policy has still room to develop, while he wondered ‘if negative interest rates have exacerbated debt dynamics in Switzerland’
