Key Quotes
It would have been helpful at this point of the night to know with a degree of confidence which way this election was shaping up. But with some of the key swing states - the ones with the largest number of electoral college votes - Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina - leaning Republican at this time, early thoughts of a Clinton victory are still looking possible, but not much better than a coin-flip right now.
Clinton has done better than expected in some states, such as Texas, where she has narrowed the margin substantially. But this will come as cold comfort as she gains no votes from simply narrowing the margins. And in some states - such as Ohio, Democrats are losing ground, and could lose the state.
Many other swing states that have started reporting are too close to call. The current electoral college vote count is 128 Trump, 97 Clinton.
