EUR/JPY breaks above 145.00, fresh 5-year highs

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The EUR/JPY broke above the 145.00 mark and rallied to fresh 5-year highs as the shared currency extends gains across the board amid thin volume.

The EUR/JPY rose more than 100 pips in a matter of minutes and reached a peak of 145.67, last seen September 2008 without a catalyst other than stops being triggered. At time of writing, the EUR/JPY is trading at the 145.30 zone, 1.3% above its opening price.

Meanwhile, the euro reached a 2-year high of 1.3891 against the dollar.

The EUR/USD gathered fresh momentum and broke through the 1.3811/32 resistance area, triggering stops and extending gains to its highest level in over 2 years.
