Wall Street firm on dovish/mixed FOMC
Wall Street posted modest gains today on the back of the FOMC minutes signaling to markets that there is no hurry to hike rates and in stark contrast to the previous statement.
The minutes were accommodative to the stocks today, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 20 points, or 0.1%, to close at 18,572, the S&P 500 index closing up around 4 points, or 0.2%, at 2,182, and the Nasdaq Composite Index ended up at 5,228.
FOMC minutes: Divergence about when to raise rates
The statement that said "Near term risks to economic outlook have diminished," wasn't backed up in the minutes while voters agreed to wait for more data to gauge the economy while also showing that some Brexit medium and long-term risks exist from abroad. Most notably, the FOMC were also divided on whether job-gain pace worrisome.
