US consumer price index rises 0.2% in June

US consumer price index increased a seasonally adjusted 0.2% in June, the Labor Department said Friday. The reading missed expectations of a 0.3% rise.

Excluding the volatile categories of food and energy, the so-called core CPI, rose 0.2% in June, matching forecasts.     

The CPI climbed 1% in June from a year earlier, the same level as May, but below 1.1% expected. Prices excluding food and energy climbed 2.3% on the year, matching the highest level since May 2012.
