US: All eyes on Fed speakers and Services PMI data – TDS

Research Team at TDS, suggests that due to a light economic calendar, markets will be more keenly focused on central bank speakers.

“Dallas President Kaplan (non-voting member) will speak in Dallas at 1315 ET. In an interview with the FT yesterday, President Kaplan spoke in favour of holding off from lifting rates further until market turbulence subsides. Later in the evening, St. Louis President Bullard (voting member) will speak in New York at an industry dinner.

On the data front, attention will be focused towards new home sales for January. TD sees an annualized 505k for the month, which would represent a 7.2% decline from December and less than the consensus forecast for 520k.

Preliminary Markit Services PMI for February rounds out the calendar; TD looks for the index to dip to 52.8 from 53.2 while the market expects a slight improvement to 53.5.”
