Senate panel gives green light for limited military strike in Syria

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - The Senate Foreign Relations Committee in the U.S. endorsed President Barack Obama to take limited U.S. military action against Syria, after a vote breakdown of 10 to 7, in what marks the first step toward congressional approval.

The decision to authorize a military operation, supports the notion of force in a “limited and specified manner against legitimate military targets” during a 60-day period following enactment, with a 30-day extension also a possibility should Obama find it necessary. The resolution, however, was categorical on not allowing U.S. troops to engage on ground combat.

As Adam Button from Forexlive reports: "The full Senate must now take up the resolution and vote on it, which will start next week. The House might take up the Senate resolution or vote on its own. There is a chance of a Republican revolt against the war and that would test Obama’s willingness to authorize a strike on his own."
