Japan consumer spending to firm ahead – Nomura

FXStreet (Barcelona) - Research Analysts at Nomura, expect Japanese consumer spending to firm even if improvement in employment conditions slows slightly in near term.

Key Quotes

“Consumer spending data were mixed in March, but over Jan-Mar as a whole showed a slight weakening.”

“Considering also weakness in manufacturers’ production plans and the decline in the number of new job openings, we expect improvement in the employment environment to be subdued for the time being.”

“However, we anticipate ongoing improvement in consumer sentiment in the near term against a backdrop of widespread perceptions of labor shortages among companies.”

“We also see prospects for firmer consumer spending further out, supported by wage hikes in the spring wage negotiations and prospects of summer bonuses being higher than last year.”
