ECB aims to ‘rekindle investment’ in Europe – ECB’s Coeure
FXStreet (Mumbai) - European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board member Benoit Coeure told in an interview published on Monday, that before policymakers took the decision to launch the ECB QE, there had been doubts about the willingness of the central bank to respect its mandate.
When asked whether the ECB could do more for relaunching investment in Europe through more targeted policies, Coeure said that "everything we are doing at the moment forms part of an approach aimed at rekindling investment."
"Compared with the traditional policies of central banks, which are geared to the short term, QE is an extension of the intervention horizon of monetary policy."
"In short, we are creating favorable conditions for long-term investment, and it is up to the governments and the European institutions to take advantage of these conditions."
