UK Retail Sales decline in January

FXStreet (Mumbai) - The data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed today that the retail sales in January fell 0.3% on the month,compared to the expected fall of 0.2%, and down from the previous month’s rise of 0.4%.

The annualized retail sales increased 5.4%, missing the estimate of 5.9%, and up from January’s 4.3%. The details revealed the Average store prices fell by 3.1% in January 2015 compared to Jan 2014, its largest fall to the date. The data also showed a sharp rise in the quantity bought in petrol stations and department stores, while it fell predominantly in food stores, textile, clothing and footwear and other stores.

UK retail sales marked their 22nd month of year-on-year growth in January, with retail sales estimated to have increased by 5.4 percent according to the Office for National Statistics.
