The S&P closed above 2,100 as Wall Street jumped in the last hour

FXStreet (San Francisco) - US stocks market closed higher on Tuesday as investors welcomed news from Greece. The Dow closed above the 18,000 level while the S&P finished above the 2,100 for the first time ever. Rumors that Greece will ask for a six-month extension deal on debt obligation hit the wires.

Sectors finished Tuesday mixed for the day. Market leaders were Health Care shares (+0.49%), Financials (+0.46%) and the Energy sector (+0.29%). To the downside, Utilities (-0.26%), Telecomm (-0.18%) and Technology (-0.15%) were the laggards.

The S&P 500 closed Tuesday up 0.16% to 2,100. The Dow Jones rose 0.16% to finish at 18,047.58; while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.11% to 4,899.27. Small caps in the figure of the Russell 2000 rose 0.15% to 1,225.01.

Big caps' winners were: Medtronic PLC $MDT (+3.73%), Gilead Sciences $GIL (+1.90%), and Apple $AAPL (+0.59%). To the downside, losers were Alibaba $BABA (-2.47%), Amazon.com $AMZN (-1.72%), and Google $GOOG (-1.12%).

AUD/USD within an air of optimism

AUD/USD is currently trading at 0.7814 with a high of 0.7830 and a low of 0.7741.
