Up to Greek authorities to decide if they want an extension - Dijsselbloem
FXStreet (Córdoba) - It all comes to this, after Greece called finance ministers’ proposal “unacceptable”, Eurogroup Chairman Dijsselbloem said Greek authorities should make up their minds and decide if they want an extension of the bailout programme.
Speaking at a press conference in Brussels after a break up in negotiations, Dijsselbloem said there were “slight sense of disappointment” among ministers regarding the outcome of the talks. He said Eurozone ministers agreed the best way forward was for Greek authorities to seek an extension of the current € 240 billion programme, which will give more time to work on future arrangements.
Eurogroup’s Chairman said extension would allow flexibility for Greece and it would involve commitments.
Dijsselbloem said any deal has to be based on current programme and added there could be an extra meeting on Friday. Greece's bailout programme is due to expire on February 28.
