Greece election will not influence monetary policy - ECB’s Couere
FXStreet (Mumbai) - The European Central Bank (ECB) policy maker Benoit Couere told German newspaper Die Welt the bank’s decision to take up sovereign QE would not be influenced by Greece’s national election on Jan. 25.
He further added that the bank is far advanced in discussions about whether to embark on a sovereign bond-buying program and could take a decision at its Jan. 22 meeting. "Last week, we discussed a lot of technical details", he said.
On inflation, the policy maker said, “the continually falling oil price strengthens the risk in the current environment that people lose trust in our inflation goal." He further stressed that the bank cannot ignore that the current rate of inflation at -0.2%, is far below the bank’s definition for price stability under 2%.
