Key events on Monday - Westpac

FXStreet (Bali) - Sean Callow, FX Strategist at Westpac, breaks down the key events to keep an eye on Monday.

Key Quotes

"At 11:30am Syd/8:30am Sing/HK we see Australia housing finance approvals for Nov. This is a far less volatile series than e.g. building approvals which surprised on the strong side last week. Banking industry data provides some guide to the loan total. Consensus is 1.7% m/m but Westpac looks for -0.3%. We view the 0.3% gain in Oct as somewhat misleading, boosted by refinancing. The estimate of investor loans will be worth noting too. AUD is unlikely to show much reaction."

"Asia’s data highlights are India’s Nov industrial production and Dec CPI. China’s Dec monetary data releases (loans, money supply) are due any day until Thu. The US data calendar is quiet as usual post-payrolls but in the NY afternoon we will hear from Atlanta Fed president Lockhart on the economic outlook. He is best regarded as a centrist and will vote at FOMC meetings this year."

USD heavily offered to start the week

The US Dollar is selling off across the board in early Asian trade, with traders re-assessing positioning in the world's reserve currency following disappointing wage growth in the US last Friday.
