Nowotny: Joint view is that inflation isn't high enough
FXStreet (London) - Speaking in Vienna, European Central Bank governing council member Ewald Nowotny has said that the joint view in the ECB is that inflation isn’t high enough, but that we should wait for the effects of the most recent ECB policy measures to filter through before launching further central bank intervention.
- “I personally think that we should have a steady hand policy and monitor how the economic development really is and what the effects are of the measures taken.
- “We should differentiate between core and total inflation, which is strongly influenced by energy prices, which central banks can’t control.”
- “Core inflation is not as far away from the inflation target, but it is still significantly below it.”
